Website Audit

If you’re not proud of your website and how it’s performing, a website audit can show you what to change.

There are lots of reasons why you might have fallen out of love with your website.

Perhaps it doesn’t really reflect your brand or explain your proposition. Perhaps you just have a sense that it could be serving your business better.

A website audit provides clarity on what’s not working and why. It’s a structured review of the three key aspects of your website: Usability, Content and Design, pinpointing what needs to be improved so your website can perform at its best. What’s more, it gives you a roadmap for how to get there.

Your website audit in 3 steps

Step 1:

Questionnaire

I’ll send you a short questionnaire to define:

  • What you want your website to do for your business, and how you feel it’s lacking.

  • Who you want to attract to your website (your target audience groups).

  • What you want your target audience groups to know, feel and do on your website.

  • What resources are available. Are you up for a complete rebuild with designers and developers or do you just want quick wins and edits that you can make yourself?

You can either complete the questionnaire and send it back to me, or we can workshop it together. If you already have all of this defined, you can just share any documents and data with me; I’ll review it and check if there are any questions we still need to answer.

Step 2:

Audit

I’ll conduct a thorough review of your website, checking that it meets your objectives and follows the latest best-practice guidance.

The audit focuses on 3 areas:

Usability

  • Navigability
Can users easily find the information they’re looking for and complete the tasks they came to do? Are there any dead ends or points of confusion where users might drop off?

  • Page layouts
Is the information presented to the user in a clear and intuitive way? Do the layouts work on any device?

  • Technical issues
Does your website load quickly enough; are there any elements slowing it down? Are there any broken links or content that doesn’t render properly?

Content

  • Text
Is the copy clear and compelling, and is it formatted for online reading behaviour? Does the tone of voice represent your brand? Are there any important messages that are missing?

  • Imagery
Does your website contain imagery (photos, graphics, videos etc) that will engage your users and help convey your message? Is it consistent and on-brand?

  • On-page SEO
Is your content optimised for Google? Do your URLs, page titles, meta descriptions and copy all contain relevant keywords?

Design

  • Accessibility
Can all users have a positive experience on your website, regardless of ability, age or device?

  • Look & feel
Does the design embody your brand and give users a sense of what it’s like to be a client/customer? Is it consistent throughout the website?

  • Performance
Does your design improve how your website performs, or does it just look pretty? Do your colours, fonts and link styles help users get what they need from your website?

Step 3:

Action Plan

I’ll create a detailed report of my findings with clear and practical recommendations for improving your website.

Together, we’ll rate each task by effort and impact to create a prioritised list of actions.

You’ll be able to tick off the quick wins at the top of the list straight away, and start improving how your website performs for your target audience.

“Alex did an audit of the Orama website and provided a clear, easy-to-implement report of all the elements that could be improved, starting with low-hanging fruits that could make an immediate difference, but also plotting a clear path for future improvements.”
