Content Design
Crafting content for a frictionless digital experience
Content Design is an approach to creating content that puts the user first.
Rather than focusing on what a brand wants to say, it starts with understanding the user’s needs, then developing the right messages to meet those needs.
It’s an effective approach for creating any type of content - I use its techniques in my content strategy and copywriting work - but it’s particularly powerful when you’re building a digital product or service.
As a Content Designer, I work with UX, design and product experts to present information in a way that gives users a great digital experience.
Content Design process
The term ‘Content Design’ is often used interchangeably with ‘UX writing’, but writing is just one part of a collaborative process.
Conducting user research to understand the audience, their needs, behaviours and journeys
Working out what messages are needed and where to fulfil users’ needs
Choosing the language and tone that will help users along their journey
Creating content – this can be writing or figuring out the most suitable type of content
Testing and iterating to constantly improve the user experience.
